It's interesting, the older I get, the more the kind of goals I set for myself change to reflect how I want to feel rather than what I want to have or "accomplish". Every year I set an intention and make a long list of goals I aim to check off by the end of the year such as reading a certain number of books (which let's be honest, I never reach lol), purchasing items that I think will enhance my life in some way (i.e. buying a new car, bags, shoes), travel and so on. And while there isn't anything inherently wrong with these desires, I've shifted my focus to developing intentional goals that prioritize my mental, spiritual, physical and emotional well being.
My theme for 2024 is rest and healing. Rest is a priority that is non-negotiable at this stage in my life. This includes different types of rest such as creative rest which I do through colouring or experimenting with new soap recipes; spiritual rest which for me is done by setting time for prayer, devotionals and going to church. Physical rest right now looks like incorporating gentle movement into my daily routine such as stretching before bed or going on leisurely walks in the morning. My emotional rest has included journaling, going to therapy; and social rest means being in community and spending time with loved ones. Ultimately, I view rest as a necessary container for healing, these elements fuel each other and cannot exist without each other.
So here's to a fabulous 2024 full of rest and healing however it looks or feels like for you!
